It's the letter "Lambda" from Greek alphabet. Here, it's standing for Lakethomenia which was the part of the Peloponesos peninsula the Spartans lived. For the Macedonian faction in RTW it's a miss-use. At least that's as far as I know. Greetings from Austria.

Alexander was Makedonian. For a long time the Greek city states didnt even except Macedonians at the Olympic games, if I not mistaken.
