my first thought when i saw the "big dog" was AT-AT (aka imperial walkers) and as far as exosuits go the military has already got some prototypes and (around 5 years before the first Halo game came out[about ten years ago]) they got some that clocked going 30+ mph and had a bullet resistant chase...
