Blind Guardian - A Night At The Opera (album)
2002's "A Night At The Opera" (not to be confused with the Queen album of the same name) was the follow up to one of the band's opuses; 1998's Nightfall in Middle Earth. A Night At The Opera pushes the progressive element to the extreme, and is the band's most musically and compositionally ambitious work to date. The songs of Nightfall in Middle Earth seems like straightforward power metal works compared to the tracks on this album; which include neoclassical instrumentation, unconventional song structures, and dynamic time signatures. The album was and is divisive amongst both critics and fans; some considering it to be a masterpiece of metal, and others seeing it as being overly-ambitious and collapsing under its own weight. While the songs can be a little samey and the pacing a big of a drag, no matter what side of the debate you're on, this is still a great album.
