About Sanford Underground Laboratory at Homestake
The Sanford Underground Laboratory at Homestake will welcome the LUX dark-matter detector and the Majorana Demonstrator neutrinoless double-beta decay experiment in 2012. The South Dakota Science and Technology Authority reopened the former Homestake gold mine for science. Now the SDSTA is operating the lab with support from the Department of Energy and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and the DOE is exploring how to use Homestake's great depth for a range of experiments.
