Throughout the 1960s, 70s, 80s and early 90s, WTTV was known in Central Indiana for its local programming, including children's shows Janie (previously Popeye and Janie) and Cowboy Bob's Corral (previously Chuckwagon Theatre, both starring Bob Glaze as Cowboy Bob).

In addition to local programming, WTTV aired plenty of movies in the early afternoon and prime time slots. They also aired cartoons both mixed in with locally produced children's shows in the afternoons from 3 to 5 pm.

In the evenings, WTTV aired off-network sitcoms. Horror movies were presented late-nights by Sammy Terry, a ghoulish vampire character portrayed by Bob Carter. The station frequently ran local advertising which included Dave Mason Buick, "Old Dave needs the money", who was often shown in the stands during coverage of the Marion County Fair.

Sammy Terry Originally Aired 1962 - 1989
TV Specials in 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005

Sammy Terry still makes personal appearances around Halloween.

I watched Sammy from when I was a kid in the 60s through high school in the 80s. He used scare the heck out of me as a kid and then I'd LMAO when I was older. Very fond memories. :-)

I watched Sammy religiously throughout the early 70's. His show was the highlight of my week. It wasn't until I got to film school that I really appreciated how great all those old Universal horror films had been. Sammy was a wonderful host who showed some amazing old films. I'll never forget him.

Thank you. Today's television just can't compare. I loved channel 4 growing up! I've told my girls about how every Friday night me and my dad would curl up and watch the shows that would scare me to death. I was 4 the first time I saw you crawl out of that coffin (which I remember in black & white). It is what got me hooked on horror movies and be a giant chicken too :)

Thanks so much for posting these. It brought back some awesome memories.

First time I had heard of Sammy Terry was in 1971and I was 6 yrs old. I was at my godparents house and their 3 boys were watching Sammy Terry and the movie was 'The Fly' and it was black and white. I stood beside the bed the whole show scared and yet transfixed on what I saw. When the fly had transformed into the body of the fly and the man's head I peed my pants! LOL And I have been a willing victim ever since!!!! I have a video of a meet and greet from 2007 and I tell Sammy thanks for the inspiration to be a drummer. Thanks Sammy for MANY.....PLEASANT....NIGHTMARES!!!!
