Have you considered installing patch 1.05? It makes a miniboss later in the game a bit more difficult, but overall enemy agression is much more manageable.

I hope it's not too late to point this out, but I discovered that in Lower Undead Burg you can shoot the Torch Zombies through the bars with a bow and arrows. I don't believe you mentioned that in that part of the walkthrough.

In Demon's Souls, the katana is slower than the dagger or kris, has shorter reach than the claymore or halberd, seldom scores a one-hit kill, and is the second most fragile sword in the game.
