Since 1999, Saferway has been owned and operated by Randy and Donna Eckert. Randy Eckert has a long history in the transport field; he has been involved in just about all aspects of the commercial transport industry since 1974, from operating a multitude of tractor trailer configurations, engine makes and models, to management, supervisory, training and public relations positions. Randy was also a volunteer firefighter with the Sidney Fire Department for many years.

Randy is licensed to instruct in all classes of licenses, as well as airbrakes, and is an Assessment Officer for ICBC. He is also licensed as an Instructor Trainer for Class 1--8. Randy developed and implemented all commercial transport training programs delivered at Saferway. These training programs are certified through the Federal Government (Revenue Canada). Randy provided a report to the Driver Training and Certification Unit (DTCU) which was instrumental in the new air brake pre-trip procedures, and examining standard in B.C.

Randy has been certified by the Supreme Court of Canada as an expert witness in the commercial transport field, and he has aided Crown Counsel in both the Provincial Court of B.C. and the Supreme Court of Canada with cases involving commercial vehicle accidents.
