I cannot speak for all of us regarding what solves this problem. But my way of solving this was to uninstall CCCP, and install a regular directshow AC3 filter (AC3 Filter Config in my case).
It seems CCCP blocks playback in DivX for some reason. Try uninstalling it if you have it.

I won't defend Nickelback for a second. But I dare say, music is better now than in the 70's. You cannot make a point using only MTV/mainstream rock as source material. What about bands like Mars Volta, Arcade Fire or Muse? You even have a Tool-sweather!
