My suggestions would be: Use alder or poppler-it'll work better. Cut it on a band saw, cutting something that small/thin is dangerous on a table saw. Cut the handle thinner than you did. Round the handle and blade with a hand sander. Use brown paint for the handle, use gold paint for the blade.

In Sly 4, you will have options to Sly's ancestors, so, it very well could be Sly's father, or any other one of his ancestors, and, sorry to bust your bubble, but I think that's just his chin.
