Sun Jones is a high-spirited original roots rock band out of Boston, Massachusetts. With three distinctive singer/songwriters working and writing together, Sun Jones has become a musical entity greater than the sum of its parts. Chris Nemitz (guitar and vocals), John Vanderpool (saxophone, flute and vocals), Charley Carrozo (guitar and vocals), Michael Lewis (drums and percussion) and Jay Sullivan (bass and vocals) have created a big original rock sound with a hopeful message bursting with raw energy. The music of Sun Jones stretches the boundaries of traditional categories like Roots Rock, Funk and Americana to the point where this crossover appeal meets itself full circle and leaves the listener inspired by the simplicity of life affirming energy that can only come from honest music and heartfelt lyrics. Along with a yearning to escape the doldrums of Corporate America, the name "Sun Jones" reflects the main themes of the music and lyrics, which are as much about the struggles of present reality as they are about hope for a better future. In short, Sun Jones = struggle for hope. Sun Jones is an experienced group of musicians from bands including, Heavy Metal Horns, The Candles, Felix Brown, Lamine Toure and Group Saloum and Another Planet who have toured extensively in this country and others and have played venues ranging from The Paradise in Boston, Massachusetts to Wembley Arena in the UK to Budokan in Tokyo, Japan. Members of Sun Jones have had the honor of sharing the stage with many outstanding artists such as Dr. John, Maceo Parker, Robert Cray, Ivan Neville, Derek Trucks, Booker T and the MG's, Extreme, Rusted Root, Moe and many more. Sun Jones recently recorded their self-titled debut CD, recorded and mixed by 2010 Boston Music Award winner for best producer, Benny Grotto at Mad Oak Studio in Allston, Massachusetts and released in July 2010 to a packed house at world famous Johnny D's in Somerville, Massachusetts. Sun Jones is currently enjoying consistent airplay on WXRV 92.5 The River in Boston, Ma, WCIB Cool 102 FM on the Cape and Southeast, Ma, WMBR 88.1 Cambridge, Ma, www.unregularradio.com, WMVY 92.7 Martha's Vineyard as well as many area college radio stations. Word of Sun Jones' exciting live show is spreading fast and they have begun selling out at live venues around New England including most recently on 1/15/2011 at Live Nation's new Boston venue The Brighton Music Hall (fka Harpers Ferry). 2011 promises great things for this collection of dedicated musicians.
