Alternate version.
It's a dual layered song. It's about his addiction to cocaine but he substituted it with weed as that was what he was referring to when saying "I know i'm hooked my friend to the boy which makes slaves out of men" but it is also indeed about the soldiers in Vietnam seeking an escape.

Good review and I agree the flashbacks give a ton of pathos to Penguin and you can't help but feel bad for what he went through growing up and yet you see how he's the flipside of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The scene with his mother was very touching too.

I liked the issue as well. A lot of it felt kinda like torture horror the way they were treating Supes. I'm really looking forward to more issues as the backmatter was quite illuminating and I liked what I saw from Gene Ha for the upcoming issues.

I really liked the dialogue as well and Starling has quickly become a very likable character so that's all good.

I don't read creator interviews and such so that explains the sexualization in this issue. It kinda took me by surprise. I think it can be a "sexy" title without flaunting things around so much.
Overall though I have the same "WTF" moment about the ending as well. I guess we really have to see ...

I found the issue t be pretty good though I think Winnick sucks the life out of whatever he works on however since he's got a clean slate with Batwing i'm going to give this a shot. One thing I do hope for is exploring the setting and the uniqueness of crime in Africa.

You hit the nail on the head. This is a bit different and I LIKE IT! It's nice to see DC expanding the scope of the DCU. The Holland/Superman conversation was my favorite part of the book.

Out of what i've read so far this is the one i'm least impressed with. I'm still a bit leery of how Babs suddenly is better but other than that I did like the call backs to the Silver Age. I did like the interaction between Babs and her roommate.
I have faith that Gail Simone will raise the bar...
