SOCOamsterdam

SOCO (Social Contemporary Center for the Arts) is a new exhibition/ project space in Amsterdam, which has been opened since October 2005. Exhibitions focus on the area between applied and fine arts taking place on a regular basis. SOCO Amsterdam is actively involved as a production house, providing artists with assistance towards the realization and exhibition of new artworks. Over the last six months, SOCO has produced and exhibited twelve large scale projects as well as a number of art-related events by national and international artists. SOCO is financed without subsidies, by means of private funding and commercial sponsors. The four exhibitions which take place throughout the course of this cultural season, explores the relationship between artist, exhibition space, financier and audience. As a research project, SOCO's goal is the redefinition of the functions as well as the form of the contemporary art institution.
