@dgmarklin The Mason is actually operated more than once per year although it is not done for the public.

Though narrow gauge, Dan Markoff's Eureka is a wood burner. Also narrow gauge (2 foot) is at least one wood burner operating in New Hampshire.

Can't think of any more standard gauge units...

Just an FYI, the B&O Museum's William Mason, a 4-4-0 built in 1856 is the oldest operating in this country and the entire western hemisphere. It is the second oldest operating locomotive in the world. There are many other operating locomotives older than #2248.

@MUEagle2002 I guess someone liked the C&O Streamliner enough to preserve one. Can't say that about a Hiawatha...;p

@phogroian Late reply but my guess, is sometime in the late 1960s. The train passenger cars were built and delivered to the park in 1967 and it began running that year or 1968. My guess is Porky came around that time. I've been going to the park since I was young and am one of the train engineers...

@Weiberts LMAO. That engine isn't EVER leaving the Smithsonian. No way in hell is it going anywhere. That building was partially built around that engine after it arrived.

@trainfann1 Only one train is being run. A standard passenger train (no freight) to the Grove and back. That is it and nothing more.

@TNtrainboy15 The museum has stated via there Facebook page that there will likely be many more steam weekends next year due to the popularity of the single steam weekend. Look for more frequent steam ups in 2012.

It ran today and has been running for the past week or so. It has had the issues taken care of and is in service for the time being as confirmed by the Rail Road itself.

@Metracab123 "Bending the rules to get the right shot" is what gets people hurt or killed. Doesn't matter if it is a fast freight or a park train. Been around these things long enough to know that and see plenty of close calls and accidents.

@tropicalfishswim No. The 475 recently (as in a few years ago) had a very in depth running gear overhaul. Unless there are problems again with it, it won't be getting another one.

@puttrainguy I picked up the BNSF version of this set. A nice one. The stack cars clear my tunnel by just under a tenth of an inch. One of my LHS's can't run it on some of the loops on his layout as the cars won't clear tunnels, retaining walls, etc.
