I don't think anything they ever did compares with Stand Up. Especially Aqualung, which is agree with you on. Saw them 5 times in the 60's and once at Tanglewood, Mass with the Who and Its a Beautiful Day in July 70 or 71.

I saw them 27 times, no one in the USA loves them more than me. But this isn't true. The other 4 wanted to continue

The music being made today, last decade, the 90's, and the 80's ABSOLUTELY BLOWS compared to what was made from 62-77. Try to find groups anywhere near as good as the Band, the Doors, The Beatles and 300 others great artists. You don't even have one!

Richard Manuel made every band vocal better, even when he just had a minor role. In an interview with Helm for a show called the 20 best albums ever (I think MTV or some PBS thing in the late 80's) Levon called him the Band's main singer and the key to their success.
