SABC Education's content, gathered from a wide range of educational issues contributes to a rich cultural shared South African identity.Using radio, television, web, print, outreach, telephones, cell phones and other new media platforms, SABC Education's programming and services reach most South Africans.
SABC Education's programming covers issues in the following categories:
Formal Education
Programming that supports the accredited curriculum from reception year to tertiary for learners and educators targeting the foundation, intermediate, senior, FET (Further Education and Training), higher and ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training) education phases.
Marketing Unit
The Marketing Unit at SABC Education:
Engages and connects with citizens in innovative and effective ways on special national and international days. Builds awareness and attracts audiences through various national campaigns. Extends content beyond television and radio through publicity activities. Drives community involvement / development and nation building by forging strategic partnerships with stakeholders, partners and sponsors
Informs the public and stakeholders of our role in contributing to enriching and empowering South Africans and therefore inspiring the nation.
Outreach Unit
The Outreach Unit at SABC Education provides outreach interactive support activities that include but are not limited to creating multi-media educational materials for resource centres and various training initiatives. Their comprehensive database ensures educational messages about projects reach the most rural corners of the country; their monthly newsletter provides practical user-friendly information for many readers. These newsletters are participative, allowing feedback and the opportunity to share useful information with parents, teachers, learners and anyone interested in making a difference.
Tweens & Youth Development
Programming for young people that is non-curriculum and informal and promotes involvement in personal empowerment, community development and society's well-being. Tweens defined as 8 -- 12 years old, the development stage which recognises the uniqueness of being between a child and a teenager and/or youth. Youth defined as 13 -- 25 years old. Youth is a transition period characterised by youthful energy, enthusiasm, ambition and creativity.
Public Information & Social Development
Programming that plays a key role in building democracy, non-curriculum programmes for the nation that are informal, provide information, skills and knowledge through social action campaigns and strengthen sustainable development for individuals, families and communities.
