About Me:

Thanks for stopping by my page. Be sure to check out some great music from my current project "À Rebours" (pronounced AH reu
BOOR)-- French for "against the grain." on Final Joy Records. À Rebours debut CD "Vanish" is available now and we are
performing in support of this album. À Rebours is an exciting project combining several different genres: goth, darkwave, and hard rock, with apparent technical influence throughout. You can find out more about the band by checking out the band links

My formal musical training began at age 9 when I began playing the clarinet. At age 11, I acquired my first electric bass at the suggestion of my brother who had been playing guitar. I had developed an intense interest in the bass and didn't want to be like everyone else my age playing the guitar. By age 12, I was playing bass in the middle school jazz ensemble, studying under a very encouraging and supportive teacher, who easily taught me how to increase my skill by watching and listening to other great performers. Much of my technique is derived from studying players I enjoy and simply asking myself "What technique do I need to work on to play like that?" I took my teacher's advice and practiced for countless hours every day. I started playing jazz full time in high school, got my first "pro" gig when I was 16, and was honored to receive the "Louis Armstrong Jazz Award" my senior year.

I currently pursue my music career on a full time basis and have performed in a broad array of settings to numerous to mention here. As I've developed, I continue to receive peer recognition and be presented with many performance opportunities.

I play all styles and genres of music and I'm available for STAND-INS, SESSION WORK and COLLABORATION. Just let me know what you have in mind. Please post a comment or leave me a message if you want to know more.

I remember Ryan as a driven musician who always had not just talent but a drive to be the best and to work hard at his art...a rare thing in the musical world...so while perhaps some of us miss those old
hardscrabble gigs and shows from the land before time this is a grown man who took the time to pursue
his art, potentially at times where there was a social cost...I personally have a lot of respect for this musician and recommend highly listening to his music... (DrasticJasper 2009)
