The Outsider's noir Odessey. A hip video diary rendered as 'collage' using a series of short films. Journeying through the 'Lost Plot' of the black, shadowy London night of Aquarium, EC1, Ministry of Sound, Gas Club, Hanover Grand & the Boat Club; documenting the real drama of 'gangsta' garage and the ectasy of the house music scene of the 80's & 90's.
Raw documentary footage. Interesting. Atmospheric. Ungraded. Undubbed rough edits and rushes...'endless cuts... all night long... night after night!'

I am an award winning stills photographer and commercials director (D&AD,Campaign Press Awards, New York One Show and a Lion at the Cannes commercials awards (my credentials) I was at my peak in the 80's and 90's. I moved from London to Africa and have just built a website which is :

1.Partly a 'noir' auotibiographical e novel with pictures and films... a synopsis for a noir screenplay?..the life of a film director / photographer in his own noir road movie.

2.Partly a reference / learning tool
teaching about pop art & photography referencing Post Modernist communications...

'the medium is the message'

3.Partly a gallery of my photography. Particularly my erotic collage work (not porn!) focused on the concept of a photographic quest for the ultimate 'The African Goddess.'

As a film maker I kept a d.v. sketchbook video diary through the London house/garage music years,my son ( young editor)and I trying to make a film with no money or 'pro' back up; covering the London 'street' world of the 80's / 90's.

It's a London gangsta garage / house music archive for those who lived it. I carried on covering the black music scene in Africa.

I have hundreds of hours of rough cuts and ungraded undubbed raw short guerilla films which never had a real outlet until now...in a drawer gathering dust...when I found the YouTube site I realised I was sitting on a very interesting Hallucinogenic psychedelic
documentary record of the house music scene in those extasy years...

In the end I want to post a series of shorts that will ultimately be joined together to make a long form 'noir' documentary entitled 'Journey' and I want to find the people who were in the films we shot ten years ago so I can interview them now to find out how their 'clubbers' lives came out in the end.

By posting these shorts on YouTube I'm hoping to reconnect with people who were actually part of the scene who helped make the films. So I can give the story closure.

A finished 'underground' documentary film about the period... brought up to the present day when we see how the ravers turned out...

On my website called noir-image.com or blackgoddeses.com ...I always refer to myself as 'the outsider' as that is what I have always been; and thats what this story is about... an outsiders diary.

However the best laid plans often force us to take a different course since I overconfidently wrote what's above... the plot has thickened...

1. I tried to upload some of the films and the quality is really bad so I need to spend time working out how to get the right quality up there on the YouTube screen.

2. I read the YouTube copyright clauses and it worried me as all the films have music tracks over that I have no copyright permission on...The Jackal is fine as it's what they call a 'fair usage' as it is a 'parody' of the origional track...but it means I have to look at the others more carefully..

3. Also I need to check out YouTube's copyright mandate ...if they have copyright on our stuff and show it wherever they want that's cool ...but does it mean I can't show it anywhere else?

So I'm pulling back a bit till I sort all this out...so there won't be much to look at for a week or so!...

Then I found I'd got two suscribers and a rating and that made me feel excited and that I'd be ungrateful if I didn't carry on... so...

'I'll be back!!!'

As for YouTube... As a film maker I must say what you have created here is an incredible concept that can only benefit film makers of the future ...I wish we'd had something like it when I was a young director...what a brilliant 'creative opportunity' you have created ...congratulations..!The Outsider.
