About Me:
Pink Floyd was formed in England in 1965. Syd Barrett, the driving force of the crew, came up with the band's name by juxtaposing the first names of Pink Anderson and Floyd Council bluesmen. The band led by Syd originally consisted of: Roger Waters (bass and vocals), Nick Mason (drums) and Rick Wright (keyboards). The group was highly renowned in London's underground music scene for their experimentation with sound which was clearly ahead of its era. However, after Barretts erratic behavior, his colleagues were forced to substitute him with guitarist David Gilmour, who eventually replaced Syd. Without Barrett the band got confused, but after many jamming sessions they finally found their new direction. Their worldwide success came in 1973 with the Dark Side of the Moon record, one of the best-selling and most enduringly popular albums in rock history. The band ceased to plan new tours in 1995. However 10 years later they reunited one last time at the London's Live 8 charity concert on July 2, 2005, playing to Pink Floyd largest audience ever.
