About Me:
Traditionally recognised for the provision of emergency services, the RFDS today has expanded its role to incorporate a broader range of health services to rural and remote Australia.
The RFDS is a not-for-profit organisation and whilst supported by the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, relies heavily on fundraising initiatives to finance the purchase and medical fit-out of our aircraft and other major capital initiatives.
Today the RFDS' services include:
* Emergency flights for victims of accident or illness
* Regular clinic flights to isolated communities with teams of doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical specialists
* Inter-hospital transfers to enable higher levels of care to be provided when necessary
* A Rural Women's GP Service which operates across Australia
* A primary care outreach program
* Indigenous health programs
* Support & training to students in rural universities
* Radio and telephone medical consultations with isolated patients
* The provision of medical chests to isolated persons and communities
* An Emergency Rural Training Program
* A First Aid Training Program
* A Health Living Program
