My name is Shannon O'Brien, I'm 25 years old, I live in Upstate, NY and I LOVE TO SING AND ACT!

Enough said? . . . NOT REALLY, lol!

Growing up on Long Island, NY, as an only child with parents who both LOVE music, I've been singing since I can remember. I've also always been a ham for the camera, lol!

My first love is musical theatre/movie musicals. I love the combination of singing and acting. It places my two loves together and that's just so awesome! I hope one day to get to perform in a musical, even if it's only locally and not on Broadway (Broadway is a dream of mine though, I won't lie). I do, however, love all types of music. And I love to SING all kinds, not just showtunes ;)

I also LOVE to act. I've been in a dramatic atmosphere my entire life, and trust me when I say that it's rubbed off! But it wasn't just growning up around the drama that made me love it so. I'm a huge movie buff. I've seen far too many for my own good. But the one that made me absolutely fall in love with acting was Titanic. I know many of you just groaned, lol, but come on guys! there's a good reason it was nominated for all those Academy Awards - and more importantly - won them :)

Now, as far as musical influences goes. . . .

My first musical idol originated on Broadway and that is none other than Linda Eder. The power behind her voice is mind-blowing and the ease with which she belts is truly astonishing. She is a vocal GODDESS!

My second idol has to be Karen Carpenter. Karen Carpenter, who's voice, was/is a talent that impacted me from my earliest days. The first music I sang along with (that I can clearly remember) was by The Carpenters.

I can only pray to God that one day I might be a hundreth as good as the two women I've mentioned above. As I've yet to take vocal lessons, 'real vocal lessons' (I'll explain below) I don't see myself being a MILLIONTH as good!

For about a month and half, three years ago, I began "karaoke Singing Lessons" . . . Need I really say anymore, lmao? Well, just to give you all an idea of WHY I only took a month and a half of lessons and didn't continue with them . . . I was told that there was absolutely no need for warm up exercises and was told (when I knew otherwise) that everything I sang was wonderful and I received absolutely NO help or constructive criticism. This is all true. It was a horrible experience and so very frustrating not receiving any help, something I was paying for! So I quickly learned that there was in fact NOTHING to be learned or gained from these so called 'lessons' and I quit.

There was however - just as there is with everything in life - a shining side to this coin. My third week of lessons I got to perform in a 'Singers Showcase' and I LOVED IT! Performing was definitely for me! I felt right at home on stage and the experience was one that I will never forget and more importantly, was one that only reaffirmed my life's dream . . . This IS what I want to do with the rest of my life!

I plan on beginning vocal lessons (real vocal instruction this time, lol) within the next year. I'm going to take it from there and see what happens!

I'm currently a stay at home wife (well soon to be, we're engaged - we call it 'wife in training' lol) and for now, I LOVE IT! I adore cooking (Food network . . . I love you!) and baking. I even enjoy cleaning the house (I know, I know! But it's true!). I'm engaged to who has to be the most wonderful man in the world, Jason. He is my rock and has been for the last 7 plus years and I love him more than I think I will ever love anything . . . I'm very lucky to have found him.

Four years ago, we made a very eagerly anticipated addition to our little family . . . A German Shepherd puppy who we named Rudy. He is our baby (we're not planning on having any children so he truly is like our child and NOT a dog, lol) AND our best companion. We brought him home at 8 weeks old, weighing a measly 14 pounds and now, at 3 years old, he's almost 100 pounds! Just more of him for us to love!

I'm very happy at this point in my life. I had a very bad childhood but it's not something I like to whine about because it has made me the person I am today and it has only proved to make me stronger than I would have been otherwise.

I'm very thankful for my life and all that I have. I really hope to share my music, voice and insane personality (lmao) with the world and if that happens. . It'll just be the icing on the cake!
