@strengthofstrings thats because gene is far more personal. His music reflects real emotion and gets under one's skin and has real soul. As great and as much fun as the Beatles were they were never this personal.

@HYPONEX73 both were influenced by an old old style in folk music. It actually dates from before the civil war. its to their boundless credit as song writers that they took this old style and made it vibrant.

@BUDDYSHADOW the name comes from the group in the 19th century that had the rights for first performance of Steven Foster's songs.

@spudlington The performers do indeed write the scripts as well but there are several of them. While the show was created by Joel and Mike was their head writer prior to taking over Joel's part it was not a one man operation.

@clementles Johnny was in the New York Dolls. They did a cool version and Johnny took it with him when he formed the Heartbreakers with Doll's drummer Jerry Nolan.

Vaughn Monroe had the hit but this is the keeper. Monroe's also a keeper but this is more haunting. The Outlaws rock it better than anyother rockers however.

@joedodge1 sadly Hughie passed away on September 9, 2007 from a heart attack.

People who think that the CIA can do anything are paranoid. They didn't care about Phil Ochs. Ochs had serious psychiatric problems which went untreated. This was a tragedy.
