Beautiful~ But, I think I know our Bev's voice at any age and I must say this particular recording is miss-pitched. It's definitely a half or greater step fast ... not that our girl didn't have lightning fast coloratura, but this definitely sounds slightly exaggerated to my ears? What good audio...

Beverly Sills Lucia LIVE 4th July 1972 fountain scene finale
Fountain scene LIVE performance on 4th July 1972, Buenos Aires.
I may be alone in this ... but, to me, the fountain scene is far supreme to the mad scene ... I have always preferred to hear this music - (though yes, I'm a sucker for the mad scene - though I do not like it's cabaletta finale). Beverly brings such haunting foreboding and longing in the fountai...

Broadway is not just for gays anymore!
@dragongirl- Oh YES, I do know theatre people (too well perhaps :) & understand most of you are pretty inappropriate!! It's just on TONY night I question this judgment call - you are in the most profound profession, the greatest of all art forms ... I happen to respect you and the theatre more! ...

Neil Patrick Harris' 2011 Tony Awards Opening Number
Broadway is not just for gays anymore!
Ridiculous - totally inappropriate to open the Antoinette Perry Tony Awards ... funny, yes, but terribly inappropriate - embarrassing. Bring Liza, Hugh, Whoppie, ANYONE else back as host ... twice was twice too much.

Brava, Beverly! Yes, a mezzo I know takes this on (or has) Vivica Genaux has been known to tack this on when the tenor isn't up to the task! (frequently:)

Ah, the lovely Gianna Rolandi ... who convinced me that true coloratura singing was not dead! At least not in the 80's :) Her voice re-ignited my love of opera and seeing her live on stage will be a memory long held; as a shepherdess in Handels Rinaldo or Orland? (can't remember so long ago at ...

Anna Netrebko sings "Coppia Iniqua" (Donizetti: Anna Bolena) 5 April 2011 Wiener Staatsoper
What a thread!? It's obvious most people here discussing coloratura don't even understand what coloratura is ... it is NOT a voice type, weight or color - it is not the 'canary' soprano most seem to equate it with, abet they tend to have greater facility to perform it). It is not found in the s...
