My GOAL is not to argue about the GOAT but to let people know that comparisons are unfair due to the enforcement of rules that benefit wingmen.Bigs are hard to compare we may say things like Olajuwan had better numbers than Howard so far but I think the no defense 3 seconds rules really hurts Howards numbers.
Handchecking has always been a part of the NBA however since the 04-05 season they have been tougher on "Stayed hand with the stiffened elbow" the 'Stayed hand" allowed defenses to alter the rhythm and balance of the offensive player. This plus the Defensive 3 second rule really opened up the game for wingmen. For example a player from the 90's like Latrell Sprewell who peaked out in 96/97 with a ppg of 24.2 would have seen his numbers increase by at least 5ppg with his slashing get to basket style Thats almost an average of 30 ppg.Players who benefited the most from these rules are Steve Nash and Tony Parker thier production increased after the enforcement of the stayed hand and no defensive 3 seconds.Players like Wade and Kobe gain an extra 6 to 10 points from these rules changes so their numbers, while they would be great regardless, are inflated due to the changes so it seems as though they are as effective as a guy like Jordan,Drexler or Richmond. Its very hard to compare number from past and present players because the rules are in place to benefit the offensive player only

About Me:
Hometown:
As much as I love the game
Occupation:
And enjoy fresh new talent.I have to draw the line in the sand. These guys are exciting they score tons but to say they are better is unfair to all parties involved.
Companies:
Top 3 current wingmen and how their numbers rose during the 04-05 season
Movies:
L.James(03/04)20.9/L.James(04/05)27.2 thats +7 in the scoring column..K.Bryants numbers are distorted due to the fact that early on he had Shaq and Shaq commanded double teams. No other top player since Magic had a teammate that commanded double teams like Kobe. While his numbers look steady since 00 he has a steady dose of Shaq to take the pressure off of him.You may say Jordan had Pippen but Pippens numbers are no where near Shaqs and Pippen didnt demand a double team.Dwayne Wade(03/04 16.2 04/05 24.1)thats +8 ppg same as Sprewell but Wade under the new rules increased his numbers while Sprewell under the tougher old school rules never had that open lane and stIffened arm rule to get those inflated offensive numbers with the assistance of the soft defense nowadays.BOTTOM LINE IS IF A GUY CAN SCORE 22PPG WITHOUT DEFENSIVE 3 SECONDS AND STIFFENED FOREARMS HIS CHANCES OF HITTING 30 A NIGHT UNDER THE NEW RULES IS VERY VERY HIGH...ITS COMMON SENSE STOP COMPARING AND HATING!!
