When rap first came out, much of it was about rising up against the opposition, the status quo, censorship and ignorance regarding inequality and power disparities among races and socioeconomic classes. As one of the most famous lines from 90's rap eloquently sounds off, "Fight the power". In other words, rappers had something significant to say at one time. Some still do. But the industry's greedy eyes, true to form, began to see rap as another profitable niche. Where once rap was giving the finger to the industry, it has now become the industry and lost it's street credibility.

If you want to hear good music, regardless of the genre, find an artist who has something to say, not someone who hasn't offered anything thus far but a pretty face, an over-inflated ego, or an itemized list of the brand names they wear over catchy tunes that they most likely ripped off from an 80's alternative hook.
