Bishop Malloy Lecture Series: Talks Regarding Vatican II Play

The Bishop David J. Malloy Lecture Series is a set of talks in honor of Pope Benedict XVI's "Year of Faith". Bishop Malloy has asked other bishops and speakers to give talks in the Rockford Diocese with regard to the documents of the Second Vatican Council. These events will be occurring throughout the year of Faith.

The series will consist of at least five talks designed to help Catholics "understand and reflect on the Documents of Vatican II and why they are important to our faith and our Church."

Rediscovery of Faith Series Play

The Rediscovery of Faith Series of lectures are hosted by the Rockford Deanery of the Diocese of Rockford covering topics in preparing for and participating in this Year of Faith.

Diocesan Stewardship Play

Catholic Stewardship is a way of life. Stewardship is best understood within the context of the conversion process, the turning away from self-centeredness to the recognition that God is the loving Creator and source of everything in our lives. This conversion process transforms our fundamental perspective of life -- we move from owners of what we have, to trustees/stewards of the unconditional and loving gifts that have come from God. With this perspective, a steward recognizes that everything comes from God, develops what has been given, shares it in a loving and just way, and increases what God entrusts to her/him according to the will of God.

Ordinations Play

Ordination is one of the seven Sacraments, sometimes referred to as Holy Orders or Laying on of Hands. It is the process by which individuals are consecrated or set apart as clergy to perform various religious rites and ceremonies. This liturgy of Ordination is referred to as an Ordinal.

Liturgies Play

The liturgy is the exercise now on earth of Christ's priestly office, as distinct from his role as teacher and ruler of his people. Christ performs this priestly office as Head of his Mystical Body, so that Head and members together offer the sacred liturgy. Its function, therefore, is twofold: to give honor and praise to God, which is worship, and to obtain blessings for the human race, which is sanctification.
