I did something similar, but it was seven men and one woman. I made all of them fall in love with each other (using cheats) then the game started... One hugged one, everyone wanted to slap each other. The whole day they fighted and killed so they forgot to eat, to sleep, to piss.....

You CAN change the appearance of Hawke. I even read in an article that the skin and hair colour of Hawke will also determinate Carver (his/her brothers) skin and hair. They are just using this default Hawke so that the players don't get confused.
