This song hit the charts right at the same time the US signed the 1973 Paris peace accord effectively ending the war in Vietnam. POWs were being released and returning home. This song hit home for so many military families.

Legend is thrown around to freely these days. It should be reserved for the truely gifted. Leon Russel fits the qualification for a legend in my humble opinon. He's a true American original.
