About this user
Those with an imperialist attitude who try to say Ukraine does not exist or we are really Russia or Poland are not welcome here, and can go fuck themselves.
If you have to denegrade another culture to make yourself feel better about your own, you're pathetic.
Absolutely NO nazi's or communists, white supremacists, or sympathizers (this includes ultra-radical nationalists who support either).
Socialists are okay as long as they are the WESTERN European Democratic kind. FYI, just b/c someone is against Commuism does NOT mean they support Nazi's. I hate both equally.
I would also like to say I do not hate Russians or Russian culture (it has some really neat stuff that I would like to learn about), but what I DO hate is some of the Russian government's aggressive policies towards other countries and Imperialism. Just like I hate some of the USA's policies but I do not hate all Americans. I would like to befriend more Russians as long as they respect Ukraine. More Poles too. I do also like a lot of things about Polish culture as well, especially having Poles in my own family.
I think that their government should get out of Ukraine's business. I support the Russian Democracy Movement (and the Ukrainian one!)
About the language issue: Ukrainian is Ukraine's native language, and I don't understand why it's such an issue for some people to acknowledge that. If you were moving to Germany you'd learn to speak German. Why not Ukrainian? I have no problems with Russians in Ukraine keeping their culture and language, or with regional languages being recognized, but if they want to live in Ukraine, why not at least be somewhat familiar with the language? It's not like it's hard. Ukrainians who move to Russia learn Russian.
Liberals and conservatives both welcome IF you are civil.
Being from Galycia I am pro-Ukraine, but I do not support anyone who is too radical or who espouses violence (except in self-defense), racism, nazism, communism, or anti-semitism. Although I understand the collective anger from centuries of oppression, (I personally think that like many oppressed races, our people suffer from a collective form of PTSD) violence is not the way, except in self defense. Like I said, I'm a LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PATRIOT.
I'm not really a big supporter of Bandera. though I do think that he's been overvilified (wouldn't put it past KGB, see article above). I'm not really sure what to think. Seems there is at least some evidence that at some point things were done that should NOT HAVE BEEN. I DO NOT support anyone on either side who resorted to the murder of innocents (self defense is one thing, innocents is another) even if the original intent is a just one. The end does not justify the means. There are other ways-better ways. We need to investigate (honestly and fairly, not KGB style) and whatever bad there is, we need to make peace and move on.
As for the killing of Poles in 1941, it was HORRIBLE and I don't condone it at all. It was an unfortunate reaction to centuries of Polish rule and German propganda, and some people went crazy as a result. There was been too much bloodshed both ways between Ukraine and Poland. In 2007 the two countries started talks to put their pasts behind them, become friends, and focus on their commonality. I hope that continues.
However, it's sad how some Poles refuse to see their own problems with racism, & collaboration during the war and act as if their history is totally innocent. I think people should admit to the dirt their own house before throwing stones. Some also refuse to see the OTHER side, i.e. the "retributions" against Ukr Lemkos that killed many innocents.
Here is something very important I must talk about. Below when I say SOVIETS, that does not automatically mean Russians. Soviets were made up of people from all over the USSR, including Ukrainians. Again, Soviet does not automatically equal Russian.
Certain people who seem to be nostalgic for the Soviet days (this can people of ANY background including Ukrainians) try to squash any pride Ukrainians have in their country, in particular western Ukrainians. They go around saying things like "your resistance movement collaborated with the nazi's". Yes, it does appear that unfortunately there was a part of the movement that did, or at least tried to "negotiate" with them(which I heartily CONDEMN) . However, it was a minority (unfortunately numbers were often exaggerated by Soviet Propoganda), and to label an entire culture for the sins of a few and try and say it has no right to a country or its own language b/c of the actions of a minority is ludicrus. Many more did NOT collaborate and that's been proven, just like many Poles and Latvians did not.
There were collaborators in EVERY European country unfortunately.
Stalinist government was not anti-Nazi' b/c it "cared" about Holocaust victims-it was b/c Hitler and Stalin had a falling out and each wanted power.
