Quite a few people have asked me how I cut and smooth gear and clock wheel teeth. In this video I cover the how & why from start to finish. Scroll saw blade used, blade tension, blade breakage, safety, how to cut the pattern, sanding/filing and the particular scroll saw filing strips I use, are all covered.
This is how I have cut and smoothed all my gears... planetary gear drive, clock wheels, pin gear ring gear (in part), clock winder and the marble machine.

We kindly received permission from the owners to visit the site of a former Royal Australian Air Force radar station (part of No.42 Radar Wing), which formed a line of northern air defence radars set up following the Japanese attacks on Darwin, Broome and Horn Island in 1942-43. The station operated from 1943-1945 and during its operational life it did not log a single enemy plot. However, the radar provided key support to R.A.A.F. Catalina "Black Cat" sorties out of Townsville and Cairns to Rabaul and Japanese held islands in New Guinea and the Solomons. As the threat of invasion diminished, operational hours at the station were reduced until final closure in 1945. Substantial remains of the installation exist at the site. We return to the 1944 camp area of the Australian Army's 9th Division, 20th Brigade. This particular area was the encampment of the 2nd/13th (the "Devils Own") Infantry Battalion following its return from North Africa in 1943. As part of the 9th Australian Division in the Middle East it had been involved in the famous defence of Tobruk (the "Rats of Tobruk") and the Battle of El Alamein against Rommel's Afrika Korps. Following jungle training in Australia, the unit re-deployed to New Guinea and Borneo and its Pacific Battle Honours include Milne Bay, Lae, Finschhaven & Brunei (Lutong). We visit the former site of a WW2 military hospital located in North Queensland, Australia. The Australian Army's 2/2nd and 2/6th Australian General Hospitals (2/2AGH, 2/6AGH) occupied the site from 1942-1946. Strategically located with regards to the New Guinea Theatre and well serviced by road and rail, the area was only three hours flying time from Port Moresby by C-47. This video is a composite of two separate visits to the site. Our apologies for the video quality, the old damaged camera is about to be retired and replaced. We visit the site of a forward airstrip used by both the R.A.A.F. and U.S.A.A.C. in the defence of Northern Australia against Japanese air raids during WW2. Extensive drum dumps, personnel camp sites, dispersal taxi-ways and some bomb-proof aircraft revetments remain in the bush. The airstrip, in a much truncated form, is still in use today. Please note that NO RELIC HUNTING OR METAL DETECTING is carried out in the area of DECLARED HISTORICAL WRECKS or MEMORIAL SITES - as ex-R.A.A.F. members we treat these sites with the utmost respect. Thanks for watching and please take the time to visit our site www.nqexplorers.com. Happy Hunting everyone!
