About this user
My name is Alvin "Digi-Doo" (Pronounced DIGGIE-DO) Butler and my sister's name is Algenae "LADYFI" Butler and we are from Montgomery, Alabama. I'm nineteen and I'm an R&B artist. She's twenty-three and a rapper. Our mother has always been active in politics and civil rights issues. She raised us to be concerned in these matters and stressed the importance of us becoming and remaining active in them. She supports Senator Obama and believes in him as the best candidate for the presidency; not because he's black but she says that after observing him, she just simply feels that he is the best candidate for the job.
I briefly met Senator Obama in New Orleans at this year's Essence Musical Festival and got the opportunity to personally hear a few words from him. My sister and I were quite impressed with him. When we returned home we shared with some of our friends our thoughts about the Senator and why we all must support him in his candidacy. They eventually understood what we were trying to say but not until we gave them a clearer picture of whom and what this man really is, and the difference he can make even in our lives.
My sister and I had recently finished a single together called, "Representin" Montgomery". But after our mother told us of the comment that Bill Maher made on Fox News, saying "Barack Obama obviously was the more excitable candidate, and that he's the one who will get the youth vote, but of course the youth don't vote" we decided that we wanted to be a part of doing something to break this cycle. After going to my mother, who's also our manager, we went back into the studio, changed it up, and came out with, "Representin" Obama.
I personally feel that, as President, Barack Obama can make a difference in the future of my generation. But I found out that most of my peers didn't even know who he is. This was disturbing to me. But then I realized that if it had not been for my mother encouraging us to remain active in these matters, we might not have known who he was either. When I mentioned his name to my friends, they thought I was talking about "Bin Laden or one of his relatives. Since that time, I have reached quite a few of my peers, encouraging them to become registered voters and for those already registered, to GO VOTE!
This is what prompted me and my sister to do this short song and put it on YOUTUBE; not only to get support for Senator Obama but to also let our peers know that "we do have a voice, and it can be up to us to make the choice", but we must VOTE in order for this theory to be effective. And what better way to reach them...the only thing that seems to get our attention...MUSIC. We have got to make Senator Obama known to my generation and help him to become a household name in our communities all over this country. If quite a few of the people my mother talk with in support of Senator Obama doesn't even know who he is, then we as his supporters have a lot of work to do and a short time to do it in. And we were just eager to let you know that we are trying to do our part here in Montgomery, Alabama! We hope you will enjoy this as well as we did recording it. God Bless. DIGI-DOO and LADYFI
