I am a singer/songwriter, writer and poet from Los Angeles, Ca with a passion for music and storytelling. Very shy growing up I sang in the church choir, not taking the lead but doing my part singing in the background until one day my father, a bassist, saxophonist and organist pushed me to sing a lead song. I was not aware of the gift God had given me until the third grade when I sang "This Little Light of Mine" for show and tell. When I was finished my teacher asked me to sing again and this time with the whole class joined in. When class was over peers crowded around me and asked me to sing again and at that moment, I knew there was something special about me. I realized my gift and dreamed of a life full of music and travel. Born Cornela Marie Austin, aka Connie, I sing in genres such as Country, R&B, Pop, Soul, Acoustic, Hip Hop, and a genre all my own. I've worked with the hottest producer from LA, C. Austin, and the likes of P. Diddy Combs, Jackson Browne, world renowned bassist and pianist Christian McBride and Geoffrey Keezer. I've also graced the stages of the House of Blues, Knitting factory, and Hardrock Cafe, as well as the most beautiful weddings and corporate events anyone could ask for. I've been influenced by family jam sessions and my father's direct musical influence and love for music. Growing up as an 80's child I fell asleep every night next to the radio to stations like Kost, K Big, Kiss, The Wave, and Kday...Oldies and the music of the 80's play a big part in my musical direction even today. Favorite artists include MICHAEL JACKSON, Brandy, Taylor Dane, Surface, Babyface, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Denice Williams, Envogue, Anita Baker, Tevin Cambell, Prince, Shanice, Karyn White, Salt N Peppa, Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire, Mint Condition, Mary Mary, and so many more...My dreams and goals are to change lives through music by telling the life stories and situations of others. I plan to bring a positive force of love through song and patient character. I want the platform to be an example for America's youth and the troubles they face today. In the future I am setting goals to work with Bonnie Raitt, Brandy, Whitney Houston and many more artists...Finally I am starting my musical journey after many years of patience and soul searching. I've come full circle and is now "Stepping Out".
