Maureen Reillette "Rebbie" Brown (née Jackson), professionally known as Rebbie Jackson, (born May 29, 1950 in Gary, Indiana) is an American singer, best known as the oldest child of the successful Jackson family. As a singer, Rebbie is most famous for the 1984 hit "Centipede".Jackson was taught how to play the clarinet and piano by her mother. She became a cabaret singer and background vocalist in 1976, after the Jackson 5 had left Motown and signed with CBS. After participating in her family's Las Vegas shows and later their televised variety show, Jackson began her music career as a background session singer for such acts as Lou Rawls and Chaka Khan. After her brother Michael's success with Thriller, he worked on several projects as a writer and producer. His first project was for Rebbie Jackson; her first single was "Centipede," which hit number four on the R&B charts in fall 1984. It reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #4 on the Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and helped her debut album (also entitled Centipede) go gold in the US.
Subsequent singles from her second and third albums included "Play Me (I'm a Jukebox)" and "A Fork in the Road" (a cover of The Miracles' 1965 hit). Her third album was called "R U Tuff Enuff" and was issued in February 1988, featuring one single ("Plaything") that reached the R&B Top Ten. In the late 90's Rebbie signed with her brother Michael Jackson's record label MJJ. Her debut album from the label was released in March 1998. "Reaction", "Plaything" and "You Send the Rain Away", as well as touring and giving live performances around the world, gave her moderate success on the R&B charts; however her pop success was limited. After one last album, 1998's Yours Faithfully, which featured the mildly-successful title track of the same name, Rebbie quietly retired from the music scene, until 2001 when she performed in Las Vegas for six months. Her son Auggie was the guitarist for her Las Vegas act. During the act, she did several of her hits, some Motown classics, and even a few of her brothers' greatest hits.
