www.newswithviews.com/Ohara/debbie17.htmThis website has an article which contains a quote for admonishing us to seek God's definitions WHOEVER DEFINES THE TERM WINS THE DEBATE, and is a backer of the Webster's Dictionary of 1828 for the purpose of seeking Biblcal definitions (although this is better done by praying for wisdom and comparing Scriptures with themselves [example- comp. Rm.5:3 tribulation worketh patience; James1:3 the trying of your faith worketh patience; tribulation - the trying of your faith] ). Some things to keep in mind while studying/reading the Scriptures are, first, it is God's Word. In the original languages, it is GOD BREATHED(2Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible has the writtings which are considered the Holy Canon. The American Heritage Dictionary defines the word Canon as follows (definition number 4): can·on (1) n. 4. The books of the Bible officially accepted as Holy Scripture. There are sixty-six books with the combination of the Old Testament and New Testament writtings. While studying/reading the Scriptures, pray for wisdom (refer to James 1:5). If you notice phrases or statements which may at first seem to contradict, know that the Word of God does not contradict (Jn. 10:35 [note: if you look at this reference, do read before and after to get a better view of the context and notice CANNOT BE BROKEN), but rather it fine tunes so to speak the meaning, a DOVE-TAILING; so to speak, pointing us deeper into truth. There may be several verses which are parallel in speach but not worded exact. Verses in this manner may be adding to our understanding by a conglomeration of these parallels and viewed as ONE. The Word of God testifies of historical accounts, which are true and trustworthy, and these events also took place and were written for our learning and contain parabolic natures (Christ spoke in parables , 1Peter 1:11, 2Peter 1:19-21, John 1:14, Proverbs 8). One example is in Galatians chapter 4, which teaches us that there are TWO COVENANTS (the word covenant and testament are synonyms in Scripture, being translated from the same Greek root word which is -diatheke). In Galatians 4:24 the Scriptures say that the two sons of Abraham are an allagory. They represent something. This shows the parabolic nature of the historic account of these Scriptures. There are other examples throughout the Bible (which may take a more in depth examination to go further into it, but this was pointed out to give you an example), so when you read (and the TSK references could provide help in this) look for the spiritual meaning (1Corintians 2:13). Compare statements in Scripture with other statements in Scripture.
Movies:
If God willing, He may give a proper understanding of His Word, not based on our own understanding, but His understanding. Not just a few verses which may be read, but what all His Word teaches. Oh I pray He will be merciful to us, and guide us through. We are much in need!!! I suggest you keep a dictionary handy while reading. I have often times come across words which are archaic or unfamilar or which are difficult to understand, so looking these words up as you go could help in your understanding of what you are reading.I use a tool (which is on the Bible program e-sword [found at www.e-Sword.net ] ) which is called King James Concordance. It shows the original word in its root form, and also how it is translated to English in the King James Translation, gives each time it is translated, to which word, and gives a Scriptural reference showing where it can be found in the Bible. This gives a look at how a word is used in the Bible, thus helping to define the word from the Bible. This may help you in understanding the relationship in words, phrases, and sentences which may have otherwise been over looked. Even take into consideration opposites while studying the scriptures. Pray for widom, it may be that with these, God may lead you to a better understanding of His word. Read through slowly, look for details, and do not be afraid to ask questions and ponder the thoughts of what His word means on a deeper level. I also suggest you read the surrounding verses when ever you are studying the Scriptures, to examine more of the context. And compare simular phrases or words found in verses else where, to see how God uses these words, concepts, and themes/subject matters in other places of scriptures. Keep in mind that God teaches in parables, so when you read the testimonies of God, know that these are true and trust worthy, in historical acount as well as spiritual concept. The earthly and the spiritual.
Music:
Utilizing the online Bible (www.blueletterbible.org) to search the Scriptures is something I recomend with or without having the e-sword program. Again, pray for wisdom. Mar 4:13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? Mar 4:33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. Mar 4:34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples. Mat 13:34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: Mat 13:35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world. Mat 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. Jam 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Act 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Books:
Here is a list of suggested readings to get started. Some verses in: Romans ch. 3, Galatians ch 4, Ephesians ch 6, 1Peter ch 1, Romans ch 10, Romans ch 7, 1Corinthians ch 15, Galatians ch 3, Ephesians ch 2, Hebrews ch 8 and ch9, John ch 1 and ch 14 and ch 15, Galatians ch 5.While reading over these, notice if there are familiar words/phrases. You can utilize the TSK reference system while reading through as well. I highly suggest you take notes of what you read over. A journal helps. I often will copy and paste Scriptures which I go over. I also will have words/phrases which the Lord will bring to my remembrance, that I will log down on a document on my computer, which I will save, either for the study at that time or at a later date. If you would like I could share some of these with you as well, just ask (by e-mail or comment).Psalms 78:2, Matthew 13:34-35, Proverbs 1:1-7(notice the word PROVERB, it is also translated PARABLE in other places; also notice the word DARK SAYINGS, Proverbs 2:1-5and6-22 (notice verse 4), John 5:39, Romans 3:21 (TESTIFY and WITNESSED are the same Greek word), Acts 17:11, 1Corinthians 15:3-4 (according to the Scriptures), Romans 4:23-25, Acts 28:23-31, Proverbs ch 8, John 1:1-14, Ecclesiastes 12:11, Isaiah ch 55, Matthew 11:25-30, Revelation 22:17.Also take notice in the KJV of theBible, that quotes are given a capital letter of the first word of the quote (in most I've seen). This can indicate a place where you can search elsewhere in Scripture to better help the understanding [for example: Romans 10:15 and Isaiah 52:7 (which can be done with the TSK references or an online search using a phrase, of the latter you may have to try different words of the quote which the NT is quoting from the OT) ]. This should get you started. If you have any question which I may be able to help with, feel free to ask. I pray that God will guide you. Be blessed in Christ. In Christ's service,Steve

Mt13:23But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Mk4:20And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred. Lk8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Heb8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Rm7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. Mt19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Eph5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Let us examine a subject related to the new covenant. In Heb.11:7 we read that Abraham offered up his only begotten son.

Heb 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
Heb 11:18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
Heb 11:19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
("figure" is also translated "parable" & "proverb")

Here we read that Abraham had two sons. Now, we know that God's Word does not contradict It's Self, so let us seek the spiritual meaning of this peculiar situation.

Gal 4:21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
Gal 4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
Gal 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants...

Here we see that Abraham gave the inheritance to Isaac, and the other sons did not recieve the inheritance.

Gen 25:5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.
Gen 25:6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

Gen 25:11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.

Wait a moment. You mean to tell me that he did not divide the inheritance between them. Well some were not blessed, but one was.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

That is basically the first Scripture the Lord sent in my mind while He was converting me. I knew I needed truth because before, my life was wrapped up in lies (from the enemy, and the flesh). Be blessed in Christ! ><>
