Huntingdon County is an historic area located in south central Pennsylvania, surrounded by the pristine mountains of the Alleghenies.

Huntingdon County is nicknamed the Land of 1,000 Hills due to the surrounding wooded ridges and agricultural valleys.

During the most important time of the coal mining industry the Pennsylvania canal was constructed to Huntingdon County in 1830, followed by the opening of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1850. Today the East Broad Top Railroad is a must see attraction to remind us of the heritage that helped mold the region.
Huntingdon County has a population of approximately 45,500, and has a diverse employment base in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, service, and locally owned and operated retail businesses.

Huntingdon County is home to Raystown Lake, an 8,300 acre body of water that is one of the largest outdoor recreational facilities in the state.
Huntingdon County Houses four major state parks including, Rothrock State Park, Trough Creek State Park, Greenwood Furnace State Park, and Whipples Dam State Park. Approximately 135,000 acres of the county make up state forest and game land.

Huntingdon County has many activities for local and out of town travelers such as biking the many miles of trails, birding with the Audubon Society in a natural crossroads of the avian world, Camping on over 1,000 campsites from water front to mountain side, golfing on one of PAs top 100 golf courses, taking the challenge to hike up the 1,000 steps on Jacks Mountain, hunting the many acres of public game land, and visiting many of the area vistas. Whether you boat, fish, swim, water ski, downhill ski, ice fish or skate, you can find it in Huntingdon County at various times of the year.

Huntingdon County is home to Juniata College, a private undergraduate liberal arts institution that is nationally recognized for its academic excellence and public interest areas including a, 316 acre Nature Preserve and Peace Chapel and the Juniata College Museum of Art.

Huntingdon borough, which is the county seat, is located along the 2001 Pennsylvania River of the year, the Juniata River. There are 3,400 square miles that make up the watershed of the 100 mile long Juniata River. It provides excellent fishing, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities, along with a dependable supply of water for domestic and industrial use.

Huntingdon County has service to four major state highways, U.S. 22, U.S. 522, and PA 26, and sits approximately 30-45 minutes from the major interstates of I-70,I-80, I-99, and I 76.

Huntingdon County has passenger railroad stops provided by Amtrak approximately 4 times per day.
