Rafael Zaldivar is a young Cuban pianist in rich musical range. Formed in The Institute Superior of the Arts in Havana City in classical, cuban percussions and classical piano, he has also exchanged with the great piano players Danilo Perez, Kenny Barron, Herbie Hancock and Barry Harris.

With only 25 years, he has played in concert with several musicians of international reputation both in the field of jazz and tradittional cuban music. He has also performed with musicians like: Hugh Fraser, Steve Turrey, David Binney, Luis Salinas, Changuito, Tatagüine and Steve Coleman. More recently, Rafael had the pleasure of accompanying the Jazzlab group at the jazz festivals of Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Medecine Hat and Montreal. Rafael has an incontestable talent for composition and improvisation having been twice underlined by very popular Chucho Valdés, who has awarded him the second price of prestigious competition Jo-Jazz in the junior category in 1998 as well as in the category senior in 2003 and the second price of the jazzenrafale competition 2008 in Montreal.

Rafael has supplemented his baccalaureate in interpretation jazz at the University of Montreal and starts a master studies at t McGill Universityl. He completes successfully several musical plans with various musicians from Montreal among whom the saxophonists Rémi Bolduc and Frank Lozano and the trumpet players Ron Di Lauro and Joe Sullivan.

Il a entre autres joué aux côtés des Hugh Fraser, Steve Turrey, David Binney, Luis Salinas, Changuito, Tatagüine et Steve Coleman et a fait partie des groupes Klimax et Pachito Alonso y sus kin kinis. Plus récemment, Rafael a eu le plaisir d'accompagner le groupe Jazzlab dans les festivals de jazz de Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Medecine Hat et Montréal.

Rafael possède un talent incontestable pour la composition et l'improvisation ayant été souligné à deux reprises par le très populaire Chucho Valdés, qui lui a décerné le second prix du prestigieux concours Jo-Jazz dans la catégorie junior en 1998 ainsi que dans la catégorie senior en 2003 et second prix du concours jazz en rafale 2008. Rafael a complété son baccalauréat en interprétation jazz à l'Université de Montréal et entame une maîtrise en musique à l'Université McGill. Il mène à bien plusieurs projets musicaux avec divers musiciens montréalais dont les saxophonistes reconnus Rémi Bolduc et Frank Lozano et les excellents trompettistes et directeurs d'orchestre Ron Di Lauro et Joe Sullivan.
