Are there any advantages of this type of crank grinding over orbital style crank grinding ? I think orbital grinders would be quicker to set up but maybe the wheelhead isn't as rigid.

Quite interesting really. My grandad was a bomb-aimer in a B24 and HIS wings fell off too. It turned out that they were running Windows43 which tended to make the engines go overspeed. After that they just flew manually and left the computer at home...

I'm thinking the part-prog was prepared by a cad/cam package. A human probably wouldn't do the ops in all thr wrong order so that the bar stock is in and out of the guide bush/collet dragging in all that swarf mucking up concentricity tolerances and, eventually, jamming up...
