No, It can only detect objects under the coil (attached on the revolving arm).
In other words, the range is limited.
Moreover, the robot has aluminum parts which are harder to detect.

Indeed that would make things a lot better. However, back then i didn't so I had to work with whatever was around.
Not Even by a computer! My laptop is in the background for fast access to the robot if needed. All the code was uploaded to an "on board" microcontroller running at 20MHz.
