Think of it as a particularly exotic, bravura extrapolation from Debussy (who Bartok greatly admired) and maybe it'll start to come together.

That's John Evans (almost always credited as "John Evan"), who was the (terribly underrated) keyboardist for Tull in the '70s. Seems he was like that behind the keys, too. I'm surprised they didn't have him on the Mellotron.

"I don't need to believe. I know." I think that's a pretty direct way of stating it. What he means is that he's in a state that's stronger than mere "belief."
