Do (most of) what Heisig says in the book and learn kanji. Remember, it's a language. You learn every language your entire life.

I study Japanese on my own and take unversity classes which get me college credit, give me more practice, and correct errors in my self studying. The Japanese lanugage/culture is a big topic. Not that it's hard as the stereotype goes. It's just takes time. It's a language. It takes time to learn how to talk and write.
Learn kana. Write them when you learn kanji.

or get Dreamkana http://www.softempire.com/drea
Kana can take as little as 6 weeks to become familiar with all of them. You won't regret knowing kana. Roumaji (the alphabet) cripples your ability to learn Japanese. When you don't think in Japanese, all of Japanese becomes tongue twisters and you won't be able to talk/write/read/listen. With kana and kanji, it's easy.
I decided to write to you here,so it would be more private.
you said you study Japanese-where? in a University? is there any chance you could send me the stuff you learn via E-Mail? like homework you get,or some practice pages?
you see,I was about to sign for Japanese study myself.but the price was so high I had to give it up.
Would it trouble you a lot to send me any material you have at all?
I guess Im not being too polite, damanding this much, but if you like-I can teach you Hebrew or Russian in return....so how about it?
