About this user
Stephen Pollock has spent the last 32 years addressing the issues that come before Pennsylvania's Commonwealth Court, and he has the experience, desire, and temperament to be among the judges who decide those issues. The Commonwealth Court deals with your relationship with your employer, as well as your and your neighbors' relationships with your state and local governments. In employment areas like workers' compensation and unemployment compensation, Steve has represented people on both sides of the issue. From representing injured workers at the Boeing plant to representing the state workers' insurance fund (having been appointed by Governor Casey), he has demonstrated a firm understanding of fairness in this type of litigation. Equally important, this court deals with government issues like zoning: Can you or your neighbor build a pool or a deck, or an addition on your house? What rights do you have if you live in a flood plain? What impact could that new development have on your community? When can the state take your property under eminent domain -- and what do they have to pay you for it? These are issues that affect everyday people every day. Stephen Pollock knows these issues well. In addition to working on them as a practicing lawyer for 32 years, he was appointed by Governor Ed Rendell to the state planning board and was chosen by his community to chair his local planning commission for the last 5 years. These experiences have well prepared Steve to serve on the Commonwealth Court, overseeing the issues that impact your daily life and that have been his life's work for over three decades. The Candidate has been a practicing attorney for more than 32 years and has a broad range of experience in general litigation, workers compensation, transactional, real estate, municipal, land use and zoning law. In recent years, he has limited his practice to land use and zoning issues. He is widely recognized as an expert in these areas and has lectured widely. The Candidate has served on a township planning commission since 1991. In 2003, he was appointed by the governor to the State Planning Board. He has served as co-chair of the Philadelphia Bar Associations Committee on Zoning, Land Use and Code Enforcement. He is involved in community organizations. He was actively engaged as the president of his synagogue and a local library association. The Candidate is bright, scholarly, hard working and has excellent legal writing ability. His excellent temperament and expertise in the area of zoning and land use form the basis for the Commissions recommendation of the Candidate for a position on the Commonwealth Court.
