The Sanatana Dharma is the original belief. There is no other belief older than the Sanatana Dharma.
Even if the term Hindu is a mispronunciation of the river Sindhu, it still cannot be used to define the Sanatana Dharma beliefs. Firstly, it is unjust to name the Sanatana Dharma (a universal phenomenon) by a river's mispronounced name. Secondly, the mispronounced name is an Islamic word derived from a Persian word.
Hinduism is a religion, which cannot be older than 300 years and if Hindu is a religion then it's existence is after the invasion of Bharat by Islam.
Great scholars from Bharat never refer themselves as Hindus and the ones that did cannot be held accountable. When the world was first introduced to the Sanatana Dharma beliefs as "Hinduism", liberty and freedom of the Sanatana Dharma followers was barely present.
Correct pronunciations and titles were not prioritized. Leaders in the field had to accept the term in order to debate the validity of the Sanatana Dharma beliefs, which was earlier discredited by Englishmen associated with the British East India Company. Hence, one cannot hold against great leaders as Vivekananda for the usage of the word "Hindu" and "Hinduism", both of which are non-Sanskrit terms.
Pronunciations and titles are key in every ritual, tradition, and prayer of the Sanatana Dharma beliefs. It becomes imperative that with the information and knowledge we have available today we can start communicating to the younger generations about the importance of correct pronunciations and titles. Only then collectively we may be able to preserve the Sanatana Dharma.
