In response to assertions that I simply used the same design as the previous record-breaking bridge, I typed up a response that was too long to post in comments, so I put it here.

A vast majority of physics students used the three-triangle design suggested by gravitykills.net and our own teachers. It's what you do within that design that makes the difference. My bridge was far from a copy. A few points:
1. My bridge had two top compression members; Greg's had only one. My joints were therefore completely different much simpler and they were actually still intact when my bridge failed.
2. My V-shaped tension members are glued flat with several layers and pulled tightly; Greg's are twisted and if you look at pictures, more loose. We obviously constructed our bridges with different techniques.
3. My bridge broke at one compression member on the side. If you watch his video, it appears that his bridge breaks at the joints. They failed at completely different places and therefore had completely different structural weaknesses from different designs.
4. One of the fundamental elements of my bridge was using paper like nails to pin the joints and utilize the hole inherent in the cylindrical compression members. I've really no idea if the Overton bridge used this.

Just as a moot point, my bridge broke the hook as well, the day before, at around 800 pounds. Plus, it held the 1,071 for longer than it normally would have because we ran out of weights. It probably would have held more if we had piled up weights at the same rate as normal.

Finally, I want to mention that I built this bridge with the intention of doing the best I could from what I learned through trial and error. Greg's bridge was his second, with the intention of breaking the record. His bridge was amazing, but you dont have to discredit mine in order to honor his.
