I've been playing the piano for about 17 years. I'm currently a fourth year in medical school. Thank you to all who leave comments; I read and appreciate all of them.
About Me:
1. Can you send me the sheets?
I'm sorry; I play almost everything without sheet music. You can buy almost any song here: http://www.musicnotes.com/
2. What kind of keyboard do you play?
In my old videos, I'm playing a Roland FP-3. In my new videos, I'm playing a Roland Fantom X8.
3. Where have you been/Why did you take so much time off?
I got fed up with YouTube mixing my recordings down to mono from stereo. The difference between mono and stereo is massive; YouTube also seemed to downgrade the quality of the audio. Every now and then I'd come back and see if the audio situation had improved. When I heard YouTube finally allowed stereo, I knew it was time to come back. I'm loving the audio quality that I can get now with my new uploads.
4. How do you get such a clear sound?
I use a VSTi called Ivory (by the company Synthogy) that records directly to a Soundblaster soundcard; there is no microphone in my set-up. If you have money to spare and a decent computer setup, I would highly recommend Ivory--it has three piano samples (C7 Yamaha, Model D Steinway, and Imperial Bösendorfer) that total 10 gigabytes. I mainly use the Steinway sample. I also use Magix Movie Edit Pro to normalize the volume and remove any background hiss.
5. How do you have time to make videos in medical school?
I'm in my fourth year, which is well-known to be the easiest year. :)
6. Do you take requests?
No, sorry about that.
7. Did you go to Vanderbilt?
I did!
8. Why do you only show your hands in your videos?
I've been guilty of making some weird facial expressions that I don't want on camera.
9. Why don't you place more of your MP3's on iTunes?
The copyright/royalty situation with selling covers is complicated. If somebody else who knew what they were doing could set it up for me, I'd gladly put everything I have up on iTunes. When it comes down to it, I just don't wanna get sued.
10. Can you do a tutorial for X song?
A good tutorial is a ton of work, and I'm afraid I'm too lazy.
11. You played the song in the wrong key!
I'm not sure why this should ever matter, but see question 12.
12. Why do you transpose the keyboard? Why not just play a song in its original key?
I play most of my covers after hearing the song only a few times, and I usually don't have the recording with me when I'm figuring out a song. Whatever key I start playing a song in, I pretty much always play it in that key. I transpose my later recordings to the original key of songs so I don't get complaints about songs not being in the "right key."
13. Can I use your music for a video/production/wedding?
Absolutely. No need to ask my permission.
My Canon in D - Extended Version can now be bought in iTunes, Napster, or Amazon. Just search for "pianomusings" or click below.
