I've vaguely remembered this song for years, and dimly associated it with The Cars' "You Might Think" video. I guess only because the band in one video is on a painting, and the other is on a bar of soap.

Yeah, I remember when the song came out, in an interview Randy Newman said that everybody thought the song was sarcastic, but he really did love LA. Prob'ly still does. Watching it now it doesn't seem sarcastic or ironic at all.
