Just an idea, but you should try to make a campaign of 40K games. I've looked at them, and as far as i can tell, they are sorta disjointed.

I actually have about a 2500 point Wood Elves fantasy army made from the new models, larger than that counting a bunch of older models, but nobody in my group besides Apollo plays Fantasy. The last time I played was back in 6th Edition. I got started into the hobby by purchasing some Wood Elves from a friend after he was done with them, got hooked, figured out some nasty sneaky tricks and moved onto Eldar in 40K after. Been playing Eldar for 11 years.
