Pashtuns Independence/Nationalist Movement
Pashtunistan (Pashto: پښتونستان, Persian: پشتونستان) or Pakhtunistan (Persian, Urdu: پختونستان), is the idea of an independent country constituting the Pashtun dominated areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pashton History of Struggle and being misused by Pakistan (Punjabi ISI and Army)
Durand line agreement:-
Pashtun nationalists believe this historic homeland was divided in 1893 by the Durand Line, a border between British India and Afghanistan,Durand line agreement has lapsed in 1970.
The Pashtuns are the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan. Pashto is their main language, spoken by 80%.Pashtuns constitute 42% of Afghanistan's population. In Pakistan the Pashtuns are found in the North-West region and the make up 15% of total polutation.
Afghanistan's claim
Afghanistan makes its core claim on the Pashtun areas on the grounds that Afghanistan is the original home of all Pashtuns and does support Pashtun Nationalist for Pushtunistan movement.
Pakistan's claim
In the 1970s, the roles between Pakistan and Afghanistan reversed despite the Pakistan government's fresh crackdown on the Pashtun Nationalist's by the government of Zulfiqar Bhutto. The Pakistan government decided to retaliate against the Afghan governments Pakhtunistan policy by supporting Islamist opponents of the Afghan government and as result Taliban was created by Pakistan ISI/Army.
Demand of Independent Pashtunistan
Pashtun Nationalists believe the Pashtun people are within their rights to form their own State. They believe that either NWFP and FATA on its own or NWFP, along with FATA or the Pashtun belt of Pakistan, NWFP, Balochistan and FATA should be granted independence from Pakistan forming a new State possibly separate from Pakistan called Pashtunistan/Pakhtunistan.
At Present Situation
Thanks to Osama bin Laden and the war against terrorism, history has moved full circle. Only by justly addressing the Pushtun problem will the Al Qaeda threat be removed. The battle has to be fought for the Pushtuns minds. To win that battle the provisions of the lapsed Durand Line Treaty should be followed in letter and spirit. As in the case of Hong Kong in China, the tribal belt areas of Pakistans NWFP should become a self-ruling province of Afghanistan. As in China, Afghanistan too could become one nation with two systems. Pushtunistan could have soft borders with Pakistan and with the rest of Afghanistan.
Pushtunistan would not only liberate the Pushtuns. It could liberate South Asia. It could help recreate to make Peace in World.
