  • The Moon Song

Here is a song I created to help my 6th grade students study. I hope you enjoy.

At night and morning, moon’s in orbit
    About 29 days
Gets light from star we see it lit
    Makes phases to you
Luminous it’s not reflecting sun’s light
    I ask you this question
‘Cause way does the moon change shape in the sky? Yeah

Moon affects the water a natural satellite
High tide, low tide, gravity you know
You see it orbits ‘round the Earth since Orpheus’ collide
Our luck my friend, ‘cause we do need it so

Why’re there phases of the moon?
    Orbit and perspective too
Why’re there phases of the moon?
‘Cause half is always lit anyway

    Starting at new
    Waxing crescent is next
    Then first quarter
Waxing gibbous then full we say
    Waning gibbous
    Third quarter continuing
    Waning crescent then new…moon

You know it does this, Earth has no choice
    Gravity pulls water
Two times a day the ocean’s high tide
    Where the moon is over
    On opposite same way
Ground is pulled but water stays, you know
    You know it’s from gravity
    Water goes anywhere it goes

Moon affects the water a natural satellite
High tide, low tide, gravity you know
You see it orbits ‘round the Earth since Orpheus’ collide
Our luck my friend, ‘cause we do need it so

Why’re there phases of the moon?
