Steve Vai uses bolt on necks because he shreds them into oblivion and needs to have them replaced frequently, occasionally multiple times over the course of a single song. It is really awesome such a great guy chose to make music and share it with the world.

Ive got the 7 string Floyd Rose version of this guitar, absolute beast of a guitar. You can get any kind of tone you want out of it. I had a friend over for a jam session on his les paul, my c-7 blew his gibby away tone-wise.

@Mista117 True, but you know from the sound of this song I would suggest that it was originally a series of exercises he used to work on dexterity in his scales. Treat it as that and you'll be golden.

I did start out with Audacity. Its controls were manageable if limited. If all you want to do is record rough tracks, audacity is great. If you want to do anything more sophisticated, such as fading, eq-ing, or midi processing, you will need something more powerful.
