About Palaver's Travels
I'm Tired -- the Cry of the Homeless
I can't remember when I've been more tempted
To lay it all aside and walk away
From another life I've built, not one exempted
And prayed "there's got to be a better way."
I didn't ask my folks to freaking make me.
One moment of their lust has brought me here.
I've tried to make the best of what life gave me
But every time, I've lost what I held dear.
I'm tired of all the heartaches and the hassles;
Of trying to keep a smile when I feel lost.
I'm tired of trying to build all these air castles;
Of trying to keep my boat from being tossed.
This isn't in the least what I call living.
Subsisting on what others want to share,
I'd rather be the one behind the giving,
The one who offers others love and care.
It seems the more I try the worse it's getting
And seldom do I find an honest soul
Who really listens without soon forgetting.
They might as well hand me a lump of coal.
There was a time when things were so much better,
However transient then the moments were.
Empty, I can't pull myself together.
Drained of hope, now I'm not really sure
Which way to go or where I will be sleeping
Tomorrow night or in a month from now.
I'm cursed to be a vagabond but keeping,
My face toward the sun and hope somehow
The One who masterminds all of creation,
Will finally make good on His judgment call
And give me back to Earth and her foundation,
Dust to dust, I will be one withal.

The knocks in life have honed my wits
And my noble laughter nicely fits
Inside the pockets of pride's vests
When I must face life's cruelest tests.
I've lived the best and worst of times,
And learned what things to leave behind
To not be shaken by the darts
That sink into my wounded heart.
The dismal niches I have filled
Took sheer determined strength and will
To stand up to the constant wear
On my defenses when I cared.
I've swallowed with unuttered sighs
The silent tears when I would cry
Instead, I forced a merry note
And dissolved the lumps that filled my throat.
I've weathered grief and so much more
With God beside me, fought my wars.
You see, these lumps are all the tears
I swallow through my pain and fears
And with that same steadfast command
I'm stronger for my purpose and
The blessings that have multiplied
Are worth each tear that I have cried.

Describe myself? That sounds so, "all about me-ish". So let me say this. I'm on a mission. Yep! I'm putting together my first book! Yeah! It will be a compilation of poetry, art and photography, not of just my work but of other generous souls who are contributing to it as well. It's a sure fire way of keeping me humble, lest I become boastful about what "I" have accomplished and here's the beauty of it. A percentage of each book sold, after cost, will go into a foundation for displaced people, so while the good Lord is keeping me in check, it's a reminder to me that I couldn't have done it by myself aaaand... it's my way of giving back. See, I was homeless too once, after I lost everything when my husband passed away, a double whammy, you might say. Oh yeah, was a time when I had it all; everything my heart desired and even then, I always had a heart for those less fortunate than I but it wasn't until I was "processed" through like everyone else that it became clear to me. When I began my book back then, I wouldn't have been able to look a homeless person in the eye and say, "I know how you feel." Now I can and with satisfaction knowing, I'm using my God-given talent to better the lives of others, and have, when that's ALL I had to give, so it's also a tribute to those who have made the difference in my life, who believed in me when all I had to show for my life was my integrity.I Soar
As sure as bars won't be my prison,
Neither can the strongest chains
Constrain or threaten my decision
Bondage will not shake my claim
No bonds can hold what I have hidden
Freedoms' wings take me to heights
Beyond where mortals yet have ridden;
Opened doors to sounds and sights
That can't be tamed, tied down or broken
By contrivance, hand or tool
Where contemplation's left unspoken
Lest I'm called an utter fool.
