Minority History of Pakistan

From 1947 to the mid-1970s, the governments of Pakistan were largely secular in policy and judgment.However, with the Zia-ul-Haq's Islamization and forced implementation of Islamic Sharia law in Pakistan marginalized the minorities and caused intense persecution.

Pakistan's estimated population is 172,800,000 in July 2008, 96% Muslim, with Christians(2%) and Hindus(2.5%) other minority faiths are Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Buddhists, Ahmadi etc

Christians are the Second religious minority community in Pakistan and total number are at least 2,000,000 in 2008, or (1.6%) of the population and they are mainly in Punjabi with (90%) population and rest all over in country.

Blasphemy Laws

Such Islamisation include the Blasphemy laws, which make it dangerous for religious minorities to express themselves freely and engage freely in religious and cultural activities. The promulgation of Sharia, Quranic law has also increased the marginalization of minorities.On July 28, 1994, Amnesty International urged Pakistan's Prime Minister,Late Benazir Bhutto but she failed.

Result

The increasing Islamisation of Pakistan and antagonism against a minorities has forced many Christian &Hindus to leave there faith and convert to Islam

Please Note-Christian community had played major role in Creation for Pakistan State and being promised by MA Jinnah (Founder of PK) for equal right for all Christian & other minorities.
